Sending drip Campaigns using Automations

A drip campaign is a series of emails sent to a contact automatically over a set period of time. Rather than sending a one-off message, you're building a sequence that guides people through a journey, whether that's welcoming new subscribers, nurturing leads, or onboarding new customers.

What are drip campaigns good for?

Drip campaigns work best when you want to deliver the right message at the right moment, without having to manually send each email yourself. Because they're automated, they run in the background while you focus on other things, and every new contact who meets your trigger conditions will go through the same sequence.

Some common uses include:

  • Welcome sequences. When someone joins your list, a drip campaign lets you introduce your brand, set expectations, and point them toward your most useful content or products, all without lifting a finger after the initial setup.
  • Lead nurturing. If a contact has shown interest but isn't ready to buy, a drip sequence can keep them warm over days or weeks, sharing relevant content and building trust gradually.
  • Onboarding. Help new customers get the most out of your product or service by walking them through key features or next steps in a structured way.
  • Re-engagement. A short drip sequence targeted at contacts who haven't interacted with your emails in a while can help win back their attention before you consider removing them from your list.
  • Reminders. If you have contracts that are up for renewals or events taking place, a drip campaign triggered by a date in a custom field can help ensure your customers don't miss upcoming renewals or events.

Triggering drip campaigns from website activity

Drip campaigns become even more powerful when they're triggered by what your contacts actually do on your website, rather than just when they sign up or hit a date-based milestone.

Transpond's website tracking lets you identify known contacts when they visit your site and use that activity as a trigger for your automations. Once tracking is set up, Transpond de-anonymizes website visitors by matching them to contacts already in your list, so you can start responding to their behavior in real time.

How it works

When a tracked contact visits a page on your site, Transpond logs that activity against their contact record. You can then use that data as a trigger condition in your automations. For example, you might set up a sequence that fires when a contact visits your pricing page, or when they've viewed a particular page more than twice in a short window of time.

This kind of behavioral trigger is useful because it lets you reach out at exactly the moment someone is showing interest, without waiting for them to take a more explicit action like filling out a form.

Example use cases

  • High-intent page visits. If a contact visits your pricing page or a specific product page, you could trigger a short sequence that addresses common questions or objections, or simply flags them to your sales team for a follow-up.
  • Repeated visits. A contact who keeps coming back to the same page is signaling strong interest. Setting a trigger based on visit frequency, such as visiting a page three or more times, lets you catch that moment and respond with a targeted email.
  • Content engagement. If a contact reads multiple articles or visits your blog frequently, you could trigger a sequence that offers them a content roundup, a free resource, or an invitation to subscribe to a more targeted list.

To use website activity as an automation trigger, you'll need to [have Transpond's website tracking installed on your site] TODO. It's a simple script that you add once to your site headers. Once that's in place, you can select website activity as a trigger condition when building your automation and define the specific page URL and visit threshold you want to use.

Things to keep in mind

Before you build your Automation sequence, it helps to map out the journey you want contacts to go through. Think about how many emails you need, how far apart they should be spaced, and what action you want each email to prompt.

Keep each email focused on a single goal. Drip campaigns are most effective when every message has a clear purpose and a clear next step for the reader.

How to create a drip campaign in Transpond

  1. Click the + Create button in the top menu bar > Automations.
  2. Choose from a set of prebuilt Automations, or use the From Scratch option if you want to add each step yourself.
  3. The first thing to update is the trigger for the Automation. This is what will bring a contact into the Automation to start it off. This could be a form submission, or someone joining a segment etc.
  4. Once the trigger is setup, click the + button to insert a step in the Automation - it could be an action or condition etc. This is where you can start sending your first email. Choose the Email step and configure it as needed.
  5. Continue adding steps as needed. When you're done, click Start Automation to run it.

Your Automation will now run in the background. You can find all your Automations by going to Automations in the top menu bar.
